Our page about Israeli airport security the other day prompted one reader to send us a couple of links. The first is from the Chicago Tribune where Steve Chapman writes of “The government in our pants” ... When it comes to protecting against terrorism, this is how things usually go: A danger presents itself; the federal government responds with new rules that erode privacy, treat innocent people as suspicious and blur the distinction between life in a free society and life in a correctional facility; and we all tamely accept the new intrusions, like sheep being shorn. He's referring, of course, to the fuss about airport pat-downs where burly Americans in some kind of quasi-military uniform get to put their hands inside women's knickers, and terrorise small children. All for their own good, of course. You must remember the terrible attack last year when seventeen airliners were brought down by a cadre of suicidal four-year-olds with explosives stuffed up their bottoms? Then there's the case of the six year old boy who was groped by security guards ... Are children exempt for pat-downs at airport security? Not according to one man who says a TSA employee groped 6 year-old son at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The alleged incident is part of the growing backlash over the full body scans and pat downs at airports nationwide. WBTV found the anonymous submission on a blog, We Won't Fly. The man says the incident happened earlier this month and he describes how his little boy was traumatized saying the TSA agent groped his groin and that the little boy left the checkpoint in tears. The commenter says his son was aggressively patted down by a TSA employee. "He was pleading for me to help him and I was admonished for trying to comfort him," the comment on the blog states. "His genitals area was groped. He walked down to the plane in tears." Maybe we're being a bit naïve here, but isn't there something wrong with this story? I don't know about you, but when my son was six, if someone had groped him in front of me I'd like to think I'd have been in there, fists flying, regardless of the law. Or the size of the security guard, I'd like to think. But this chap just stood and watched, and put it on a blog later? But there, perhaps that's just me. I'm a silly old sausage, with no real idea of the dangers that surround me. I should probably accept that I really need to be protected from six year olds. either on this site or on the World Wide Web. Copyright © 2010 The GOS |
